life as a Marie Claire Beauty Intern

Over the December holidays i worked (and still working) as a beauty intern at Marie Claire Magazine in Joburg. i got to meet different and interesting people and also get to experience life in the fashion industry. its honestly the best job I've ever had. the best part was my boss asking me to model for the new Chanel beauty shoot.

The Chanel store was opened and revamped in Sandton City and it was only natural for the Marie Claire Beauty Editor and boss, Mathahle Stofile, to do a feature on the new store. it was all incredible to learn the origins of the fashion house, the fragrances as well as the make up.

the amazing staff at Chanel showed us how to get the perfect Chanel smokey eye.

latest obsession: Cara Delevingne

This 19 year old British dame is currently the new face of Burberry, the fashion house which also boosted the names of Lily Donaldson and Rose Huntington-Whiteley. She’s recently walked the runway for the industry’s biggest fashion houses which include Jason Wu, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry, and Dolce & Gabbana. Her feline features, heavy thick eyebrows and “just got out of bed” hair is gaining the interest of many designers and adds a bit of edge to any elegant ball gown.

Cara is shorter than the average model (only a petite 5’11), “but, what she lacks in inches, she makes up for in confidence” says Vogue fashion bookings editor, Rosie Vogel. Her sense of humour, bright personality and versatility is what makes her stand out the most, which shows that she also adds something different besides her striking looks.

Cara is set to appear in the 2012 film, Anna Karenina, as Princess Sorokina, alongside Keira Knightely and Jude Law. She is also the cover girl for the latest issue of British Vogue, who also described her as the star face of the season for Autumn/Winter 2012-2013.

With her edgy looks, talent and spunk she adds to the industry, it’s safe to say that Cara Delevingne is well on her way to becoming one of the biggest models in fashion.

Paradise

nobody speaks to me better than Lana Del Rey. just wanted to share this amazing intro to one of her latest songs, Ride from her EP, Paradise.

I was in the winter of my life, and the men I met along the road were my only summer. At night I fell asleep with visions of myself dancing and laughing and crying with them. what exactly is original thought??

I was recently thinking about my love for writing and languages and it dawned on me.. is there anything such as original thought? If certain words have specific meanings and connotations to them then who’s to say that our opinions are different from one another. For instance, the word “whore” has negative connotations to it. If I describe someone as a whore to a friend of mine then that immediately defines them, what if my friend sees that person and does not think that whore is the right word to describe the person? Words create our opinions and we cannot really have a thought without language. If we all associate a specific word with one specific thing, then one cannot really say that anyone’s opinions differ. Am I talking utter nonsense? Think about it.. all opinions and attitudes are based on language and experience. how we interpret those experiences determine our opinions towards certain situations. could it be that we believe that our perceptions are reality? how do we know whats real if we all share the same world, but live it differently?

Henry Holland x Mr Price

London based designer Henry Holland arrived in Durban not so long ago to launch his new t-shirts that were designed for mr price recently. Henry Holland worked in association with the Red Cap Foundation and R10 of every T-shirt goes to charity. Mr price held a sweet event along with Mr Holland himself and gave us a sneak peak of his latest designs. It looks like Mr Price has really placed a good footing in the fashion industry as Holland is not the only designer who has designed for Mr Price. Model turned designer turned actress, Agyness Deyn designed a small collection for Mr Price not so long ago. Mr Price has now become trendier and bolder in terms of their look and hopefully there are more collaborations on the way. RiRi shines bright like a diamond

Rihanna has been my latest obsession for a while now and its killing me! not only is she young and sexy, but also extremely talented and has really grown as an artist over the years. not her biggest fan in terms of her music but loving her new track, Diamonds. Ri just overtook Eminem with the most fans on Facebook, over 62 million members of her famous navy. from gracing the cover of Vogue Magazine TWICE and a sexy shoot recently shot by GQ, Ri gave us a sneak peak via Twitter on her recent shoot with Kate Moss for V Magazine. Rihanna is definitely the hottest artist right now, take a look at her latest magazine shoots :)
